On Tuesday, June 30, Senate bill 2260 the so-called “shield law” passed both chambers of our New Jersey Legislature. It now awaits the signature of Governor Sherrill.

If it becomes law, it will block out of state subpoenas if allegations are made by parents that a doctor in New Jersey did not obtain parental consent before harming their child by giving them puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.

This bill shields Planned Parenthood and other providers from accountability.

It also creates a special class of immunity for abortion providers that does not exist anywhere else in New Jersey law. It removes the basic safeguards that protect patients from negligent or dangerous medical practices and leaves women vulnerable when complications or injuries occur.

With the Luminosas Clinic now opening in Hudson County and offering abortions in all trimesters (and gender transitioning procedures on minors), this is not hypothetical. Late‑term abortions increase the likelihood of a child being born alive—and under this bill, any resulting death of a baby during an abortion would be shielded from out of state investigations.
