Pregnancy Resource Center bill amended and now stalled
It may be too soon to declare full victory over the rapid‑abortion legislators trying to restrict pregnancy resource centers from offering free help to women in need, but it looks like their latest attempt has run into a constitutional wall once again.
Our Action Alert last Thursday generated more than 12,000 emails to members of the Assembly Community Development and Women’s Affairs Committee. And sure enough, just five minutes before the hearing began, the bill was suddenly amended and rewritten. The sponsors appear to be scrambling to get around the viewpoint‑discrimination and non‑commercial speech problems that plagued their first draft.
They swapped out “crisis pregnancy center” for “person” to avoid openly targeting religious nonprofits, but now the bill is so broad that anyone could be accused of posting something “false or misleading,” even something as simple as sharing an opinion about Tylenol on social media.
Our allied attorneys at Pacific Justice Institute and Alliance Defending Freedom reviewed the new version this week and reached the same conclusion. The bill is unconstitutional and has no chance of surviving a court challenge. Even the media is now acknowledging the bill’s serious flaws.
New Jersey Monitor: “Bill targeting anti-abortion pregnancy centers hits a snag”
While the revised language tries to look more neutral, the intent behind it hasn’t changed. The fight is not over as Planned Parenthood and their allied legislators won’t rest until every child in the womb is at risk.
How do we know? Because other abortion bills advanced in the committee
A1979 — Unprecedented Legal Immunity for Abortion Providers
This bill grants abortion providers a level of legal protection no other medical profession enjoys.
- Blocks licensing boards from taking action against abortion providers
- Prevents malpractice insurers from adjusting rates—even when women are harmed
- Creates a special class of immunity that shields physicians from accountability
This is completely unprecedented in New Jersey law and leaves women vulnerable when complications or injuries occur.
A4074 — A Fear‑Based Travel Advisory Built on False Claims
This bill promotes the narrative that women traveling to states with abortion regulations face:
- Lethal medical risks
- Denial of emergency care
- Possible criminal prosecution
These claims are not supported by the laws in those states. Every state with gestational limits allows emergency care to save a woman’s life. This bill spreads fear for political gain and misleads the public about the real legal landscape.
These bills reveal a troubling pattern
Protect the abortion industry. Punish those who help women. Silence those who disagree.
To only make the problem more severe, this past Tuesday, Governor Sherrill released her first budget for the 2027 fiscal year. Stay NJ tax relief for seniors is being cut, yet Planned Parenthood receives a substantial political reward of $52 million in abortion‑related funding to help sustain the 60,000 abortions performed annually in our state. Don’t believe me? Here it is:
