Governor Murphy’s 2025 priorities

Get the facts and let your voice be heard

Governor Murphy gave his annual State of the State Address this past Monday. His stated priorities most concerning to our constituents was his never-ending obsession with increasing the number of abortions in New Jersey, and his urgent call to ban the usage of cell phones in public schools. Both rightfully caused a strong reaction by conservatives across the state. But let’s understand the facts, and then make our voices be heard.

Cell Phone Ban in Schools

Let’s begin with the latter: Senate bill 3695/Assembly bill 4882 – Requires cell phone and social media policy to be developed by Department. of Education and adopted in schools. It recently passed the State Senate 35-0 on Monday before the Governor called for a cell phone ban.

First, this idea does not originate with Governor Phil Murphy. Actually, once again, New Jersey is behind other states on this issue. Currently, 18 states have a statewide policy that either restricts cell phone use in school, or requires, recommends, or incentivizes school boards to develop a policy to manage cell phone use during school hours.

Second, widespread nationwide support for bills similar to S3695/A4882 is overwhelmingly bipartisan. For example, Arkansas (conservative) and Delaware (progressive) both have policies that incentivizes school boards to manage cell phone and social media usage in school, Alabama (conservative) and Oregon (progressive) recommends school boards develop a policy, and Ohio (conservative) and California (progressive) require school boards to adopt a policy. National profile conservative-minded governors, such as Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida and Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia have banned cell phones from the opening to closing bell in schools.

The bill in New Jersey would require local school boards to adopt a state policy that would “provide grade-level differentiated policies concerning limiting and prohibiting student use of cell phones and social media platforms” while the student is on school grounds or being supervised by a school employee. Students would be permitted to use a cell phone for emergencies or threat of danger, and for documented health reasons.

Agree or disagree? Each parent will have their own opinion on this issue, but let’s not base our views on political leanings or the assumption of bad intentions. Please contact your members of the Assembly and let them know where you stand. The NJFPC did not take a position on this bill as it does not infringe upon parental rights.

Abortion Extremism

Now the most outrageous: stockpiling of abortion pills!

Yes, Governor Murphy will use a portion of the $50 million earmarked in the current state budget for Abortion services to order a massive six-month supply of abortion pills to be distributed as needed.

Normally, governments stockpile medical supplies, food, and water in case of national emergencies or other unpredictable geopolitical crises. But stockpiling what is nothing less than ammunition for the progressive war against unborn babies is a malevolent display of brutal State power. God have mercy!
