Governor Murphy’s Legacy on Abortion

The Murphy Era Is Behind Us — But What Comes Next with the Sherrill Administration

With Governor Murphy’s tenure now in the rearview mirror, our attention naturally shifts to what Governor Sherrill will do next. As a self‑described progressive, Governor Sherrill has made it clear she is not satisfied with maintaining the status quo.

For leaders who view policy as an ever‑advancing project, the “new normal” is often just a temporary pause long enough for the public to become distracted before the next wave of social change is pushed forward – frequently with little transparency and even less public debate.

That is the environment we are stepping into. With that in mind, I want us to never forget the damage and harm that has been done to children in our state by the hands of the prior Murphy Administration in partnership with the Abortion Industry.

RECORD‑HIGH ABORTIONS

  • 60,000 abortions in 2025
  • Up from 48,000 in 2022
  • 1 in 3 pregnancies now ends in abortion (maybe more!)

NO LIMITS. NO SAFEGUARDS.

  • Abortion legal up to the day of birth — no gestational limits
  • Parents prohibited from being notified when a minor seeks an abortion
  • Doctors and law enforcement barred from cooperating with other states investigating adults who transport minors into NJ for abortions

STATE‑FUNDED DRUG STOCKPILE

  • Governor Murphy ordered a six‑month stockpile of the abortion inducing drug “Mifepristone”
  • Prepared for potential federal restrictions

MASSIVE TAXPAYER FUNDING

2018–2025:

  • $268 million allocated to “Family Planning Services”
  • Majority directed to Planned Parenthood and abortion providers
  • December 24, 2025 (Christmas Eve) an additional $22 million was committed to expand abortion access.

GOVERNMENT ENFORCEMENT AGAINST PRO‑LIFE SPEECH

  • Attorney General Matt Platkin launched the Abortion Rights Task Force
  • Designed to possibly investigate and potentially criminalize individuals or organizations who seek to offer pregnant women alternatives to abortion

I wanted you to see those statistics because they shake us out of the numbness that so many have fallen into on the abortion issue. We cannot sit back and accept the lie that “this is just how things are” or that nothing can be done.

Friends, would you take just a moment and forward this newsletter update? I can almost guarantee that the people you send it to have never seen the facts laid out as clearly as you saw them today.

The NJFPC team is committed this year to exposing the hard and often frightening reality of what happens inside our legislature. For far too long, too many New Jerseyans have been left in the dark about the heinous and inexcusable actions taken by their elected officials. It’s time to change that! Your willingness to share this message is a powerful first step.

Thank you for standing with us.
