Unanimous Approval for the Parental Bill of Rights
I was at the Kinnelon High School auditorium on Tuesday evening where nearly 200 people gathered to support or oppose the Parental Bill of Rights first passed in Colts Neck last November. I was genuinely impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of the Kinnelon Board of Education as they gave each speaker two minutes to share their position.
I was among many who urged the Board to adopt the policy, as it simply recognizes and organizes the rights parents already have under existing federal and state law. Sadly, some voices argued that parents should not be notified of what the law actually says. They insisted parents should remain misinformed or unaware of the rights they currently possess. Outrageous.

Thankfully, the Kinnelon Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt Policy #9125: K–12 Family Partnership, Transparency, and Resource Policy (Parental Bill of Rights). The Board also shared that two‑thirds of the emails they received this past week were in support of adopting the policy.
Did you catch that? They record, notice, and tally the emails sent to them.
Now is the time to let these board members know how much you appreciate their leadership. Please use our Action Center to send them an email to thank them for adopting this policy. As elected officials, they need to hear directly from you that their work matters, and that you hope other New Jersey school boards will follow their example.
