Honored to represent NJFPC in Washington
Last week, Shawn Hyland had the privilege of representing the New Jersey Family Policy Center at the Alliance Defending Freedom luncheon following oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court.
He was deeply honored to stand alongside Aimee Huber, Executive Director of First Choice Women’s Center, whose leadership has already touched the lives of thousands of women in New Jersey. Thanks to the courage she and the First Choice Board have demonstrated, countless more women across the nation will be impacted.

Aimee received the Citizen Activist Award at our 2024 Time to Stand Gala for her heroic efforts in standing against the intrusive powers of the State and their unjustified subpoena.

On the morning of the case, prior to the luncheon, I had the privilege of supporting Aimee Huber and the Alliance Defending Freedom legal team as I sat inside the U.S. Supreme Court chambers, witnessing firsthand their resolve in standing firm against the intimidating actions of NJ Attorney General Matt Platkin.
- The Attorney General has demanded the identities of ministry partners and women served by First Choice—without any legitimate legal basis.
- In court, the AG’s office admitted they have received no complaints about First Choice Women’s Center.
- Several justices pressed the state with questions about whether its actions unfairly target pregnancy resource centers and intimidate donors who support their mission.
This case is about more than one center—it’s about protecting the Constitutional rights of religious ministries and nonprofits nationwide.

Before leaving Washington, I met with federal government officials to discuss the lawfare tactics being employed by Attorneys General in multiple Blue states. These State AG’s have sought to harass pregnancy resource centers through baseless “consumer alerts” designed to cripple their operations.
I am confident that the Supreme Court of the United States will ultimately rule in favor of First Choice Women’s Center. I also believe federal regulatory agencies will soon step forward to defend their vital work.
Please join the New Jersey Family Policy Center team in praying for this landmark case. Its outcome will have far-reaching implications for faith-based organizations across the country.
