Trenton Violates Conscience and Public Trust

Last voting session before summer break

This past Friday was the last opportunity for the Senate and Assembly to pass their bills before the legislature adjourns for their summer recess. Shawn Hyland, our Director of Advocacy, was active in Trenton all day speaking with Republican and Democrat members of the Assembly and Senate. Despite the votes not being in our favor, we were delighted and greatly encouraged that many conservative minded legislators not only voted in opposition to the flawed and offensive bills that were before them, but they took the time to speak out on their chamber’s floor to make sure the minority voice of dissent was clearly heard and part of the public record.

Forced to Pay for and Perform Abortions – removal of conscience rights!

Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia (R) challenged her Democratic colleagues on why they would remove co-pays and deductibles for abortion and reproductive health care services but specifically include language in the “Abortion Expansion Bill” that “reproductive health care” does NOT include childbirth. The bill also forces and compels doctors and nurses to perform abortions and assist in abortions, even if it violates their religious beliefs.

This bill passed the Senate and Assembly; However, it will not go to Governor Murphy’s desk over the summer. The two bills were similar but had differences in each chamber’s version that need to be agreed upon by both the Senate and the Assembly.

Freedom to Read fast-tracked to the floor with no time to offer amendments – as promised!

Assemblyman Paul Kanitra (R) protested the vote on the Freedom to Read bill because parents and concerned citizens were promised in the June 6, 2024, Assembly Education Committee that they would have time to offer amendments.

The Assembly Democratic Majority violated that promise and fast tracked the bill to the floor for a vote.

Resolution claiming Saving Girls Sports “incites violence” passed with bi-partisan support!

Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia (R) once again took issue with the Democratic bill sponsors of an LGBT Resolution that was intended to recognize June as LGBT Pride Month in New Jersey, but instead included language condemning legislative bills that protect girls’ sports, and children from harming their bodies by undergoing sex reassignment surgery. The Resolution said these types of bills, “legitimizes and amplifies anti-LGBT violence”.

Sadly, seven other Republicans voted YES on the Resolution and thereby condemned your values in protecting females from being forced to compete against males. We applaud the two Democratic Assembly members for having the courage not to support the Resolution.

Parental Rights champion, State Board of Education Vice President, Andy Mulvihill was removed.

Senator Parker Space (R) defended a faithful public servant who has criticized the troubling policies and regulations developed by the State Board of Education. Video is unavailable, but below is his press release that he read on the Senate floor.

Despite the supermajority of Democrats laying waste to the dignity of life and personal conscience, we take solace in your prayers and support. As the Apostle Paul says, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)

Jesus, we trust in you
