Congratulations to our friend Aimee Huber—whom we honored at our 2024 Time to Stand Gala—along with First Choice Women’s Resource Center and our friends at Alliance Defending Freedom, on a 9–0 victory regarding the actions of former Attorney General Matt Platkin.
New Jersey Family Policy Center, together with our allies at Pacific Justice Institute, submitted an amicus brief in support of First Choice, outlining a pattern in which the former Attorney General targeted organizations and individuals with whom he politically disagreed.
This case reached the U.S. Supreme Court because a lower federal court denied First Choice a hearing on constitutional grounds and instructed them to comply fully with the former Attorney General’s demands. What were his demands? He wanted First Choice to disclose the names, phone numbers, addresses, and places of employment of its donors, in addition to up to 10 years of its internal confidential documents.
Therefore, First Choice appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing that the subpoena seeking the records of their ministry partners was unconstitutional and that the lower court was obligated to hear the case.
Today, all nine justices, across the ideological spectrum, agreed that the actions of former AG Platkin must be reviewed by a lower federal court because they implicate First Amendment rights and cause injury to First Choice, including the potential to financially hinder their life‑affirming work.
Friends, let’s stay encouraged. Even though we live in a state where pregnancy resource centers often face pressure from government officials, the Constitution is still the law of the land, and today’s ruling is a reminder of that.
