A national honor being distorted by the Far Left
As I write this email, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is speaking at Cedar Drive Middle School in Colts Neck, NJ as part of her 50-state “History Rocks” tour. This initiative highlights local schools distinguished for using civics and history curriculum that celebrates the stories and people who made America exceptional. Earlier this week, Secretary McMahon visited schools in Pennsylvania and Delaware—today, she is in Colts Neck.
Unfortunately, what should be considered a national honor—recognition by the U.S. Department of Education—has been turned into a flashpoint of manufactured outrage. Far-left activists across New Jersey have publicly called for parents to keep their children home in protest.
State Senator Vin Gopal (D), the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee who represents Colts Neck in the state legislature, unbelievably condemned the Colts Neck School Board for being chosen, though one school in each state was always going to be selected. He should not be ashamed that it was one in his legislative district!
What should be a moment of pride has instead become dangerous.
Volunteer school board members, who already carry the burden of managing budgets, approving curriculum, adopting policies, and overseeing staffing while raising their own families, are now receiving threats of violence and even death. Hate filled messages have flooded their official inboxes from statewide voices I will leave nameless out of Christian love.
Friends, we cannot allow the Colts Neck Board of Education to feel isolated in this unnecessary conflict. At their next meeting, they must be able to show the media and critics that the hateful tone and violent words directed at them do not reflect the true support they have from people across New Jersey.
I urge you to do two things today and into early next week:
1. Contact the Colts Neck Board of Education. (CLICK HERE) Send a brief two-sentence note of support and encouragement. Let them know they should be proud to have been selected by the U.S. Department of Education for their patriotic history and civics curriculum. The number of emails will be tallied for the next board meeting. Please take 60 seconds and make your voice heard.
2. Email Senator Vin Gopal. (sengopal@njleg.org) or (CLICK HERE) As Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and representative of Colts Neck, he should be condemning threats of political violence—not condemning the school board for receiving this honor.
Please share with your local Board of Education members our upcoming School Board Summit in Colts Neck, NJ on Saturday, January 31.
