Mikie Sherrill wants to give Planned Parenthood more of your money

One of the most influential and strategically aggressive forces in New Jersey politics is the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Though their grip on lawmakers may not match the NJEA’s stranglehold, their relentless push for taxpayer funding from our already overtaxed state is disturbingly effective.

Since taking office, Governor Murphy has directed over $268 million to Planned Parenthood and its allies in the abortion industry—a staggering figure made even more troubling by the fact that 140 school districts across New Jersey have simultaneously lost millions in state aid.

Every budget is a moral statement, showing exactly what matters most when funding is limited and choices must be made. Governor Murphy’s actions make one thing clear: eliminating children in the womb is a higher priority than educating them in the classroom.

Thankfully, the federal government has halted funding to Planned Parenthood for at least one year. While the original “Big Beautiful Bill” passed by the House called for a 10-year defunding, the U.S. Senate revised it to a one-year suspension of Planned Parenthood’s budget.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill fiercely opposed the one-year funding pause, joining Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Alexis McGill Johnson at a press conference outside the Planned Parenthood clinic in Perth Amboy, this past Monday, August 4th, to demand the return of taxpayer dollars for ‘reproductive health care’—their preferred term for abortion.

As anticipated, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill echoed Planned Parenthood’s talking points, using sympathetic media coverage to portray abortion clinics as providers of broad services not just the termination of human life. But what services do these clinics actually offer pregnant women beyond abortion?

  • According to the firsthand testimony of Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia (R-24), the reality is stark: Planned Parenthood’s model is often abortion or nothing. During the Assembly Community Development and Women’s Affairs on March 20, 2025, Fantasia recounted her own experience 27 years ago at a New Jersey Planned Parenthood clinic, where she went to discuss prenatal care and parenting support. Sadly, no prenatal care and no parenting support was offered—only abortion. This testimony underscores a troubling pattern that contradicts the narrative of comprehensive care.

  • A recent investigation by our allied neighboring organization, the Pennsylvania Family Institute revealed on July 30, 2025, that multiple Planned Parenthood clinics across their state are falsely advertising “Prenatal and Postpartum Services” on their websites—even though none of the listed locations actually provide prenatal care. It is Planned Parenthood—not pregnancy resource centers—that warrants legal scrutiny under the Consumer Fraud Act. Yet, in his Senate Budget hearing testimony, Attorney General Matt Platkin proudly claimed his office has effectively used its allocated funds to target and intimidate pregnancy resource centers.

“In 2022, our office created a Reproductive Rights Strike Force to safeguard the right to reproductive freedom in New Jersey. The Strike Force has continued to coordinate actions across the Department of Law and Public Safety to protect access to reproductive health care (abortion)… It is also critical that all New Jerseyans have the information they need to make such important and personal family planning decisions. That’s why the Division of Consumer Affairs has issued consumer alerts regarding the operations of Crisis Pregnancy Centers, which are organizations that seek to prevent individuals from accessing abortion care.”

Help us bring this critical truth to light for families across New Jersey. Most common-sense citizens would agree: this misuse of taxpayer resources by state officials must end.
