Whatever the outcome, win!

Families and Children will lose the most in our divisive political climate.

When the young shepherd David was thrust into the opportunity to face Goliath, he did not allow the doubts of his brothers or his future political ambitions—knowing he would one day be king—to deter him from the fight. If this were the present age, his political consultants might have advised him to let King Saul suffer a major defeat at the hands of the Philistines, reasoning that such a loss would set the stage for David to rise as the political newcomer who could restore Israel. But David refused to “stay home.” Instead, he posed a question that should serve as a point of reflection for all of us: “Is there not a cause?” (1 Samuel 17:29).

We say, “Yes, there is!”—the right of parents to raise their children according to their beliefs and to be informed about their child’s gender identity at school, as well as the right of pregnancy resource centers to provide maternal child health care to women without the threat of state prosecution aimed at undermining their vital work.

Let’s be very clear: parents and children will face the greatest risks under any future progressive governor’s administration if voters choose to “stay home” in November. Conservative-minded New Jerseyans must remain steadfast in the cause we fight for. Our team is eager to share personal insights on why uniting our movement after the primary is absolutely essential.

“We either heal as a team, or we are going to crumble, inch by inch, play by play, till we’re finished” is a powerful line from Al Pacino’s famous locker room speech in the movie “Any Given Sunday.” It’s true of sports teams and it’s true for political parties. A united party is essential for achieving electoral success and long-term policy impact. When a party stands united, it sends a clear message to voters. Unity enables members to work together effectively, prioritize shared goals over individual ambitions, and maintain discipline in passing legislation that helps families. It prevents internal personality conflict from distracting from the party’s broader mission and helps preserve momentum during these critical times in NJ.

Disunity weakens a party’s credibility and results in voter apathy. Who loses? Pregnancy Resource Centers lose, Parents lose, Families lose, girls competing in sports lose, and staying at home in November because you don’t agree 100% with a candidate on every issue results in continued assaults on life, religious liberty and freedom.

While internal debate and diversity of thought are healthy before the primary, they must ultimately lead to consensus and a shared vision. True unity means a collective commitment to the party’s core values and long-term success. We are not marrying the candidate nor electing them to a lifetime position but putting in office one that will help us win in November.

I hope the Republican Party can reconcile some of its internal divisions and mend relationships, as there is so much at stake in this election.

I also understand why emotions run high during the primary season. If your candidate wins the primary, you will feel excited and energized—because if they win the general election, their administration will work for you. If your candidate loses the primary, you may not be thrilled, but staying engaged is crucial. If they win the general election, their administration will, at the very least, work with you. The worst possible outcome would be to stay home in November—because in that case, the winner of the general election may end up working against you.

I experience this reality every time I testify in a committee hearing in Trenton to oppose radical legislation or travel hours to speak at a local school board meeting. All the effort and energy spent trying to hold back a governor who adamantly and aggressively works against our values could have been avoided if conservative voters had not stayed home in 2021.

I appeal to our constituents: understand this fact. Over the past few years, pregnancy resource centers and school boards have been dragged into court because too many conservative voters prioritized social media keyboard politics over the real-life consequences that good people face when we fail to vote. This election must not be about personalities—it must be about the policies that will protect families and children.

Unifying the conservative movement in New Jersey after the upcoming 2025 Republican primary will be essential for maximizing the party’s chances to flip the Governor’s seat in the general election. With Democratic Governor Phil Murphy term-limited, the governorship is open, and Republicans see a real opportunity to flip the state. However, internal divisions—could be a death blow to the opportunity of a Republican to win in November, and will definitely weaken the GOP’s position if not resolved post-primary.

So we at the New Jersey Family Policy Center encourage the candidates to bury the hatchet (so to speak) after the primary and see who the true adversary really is. Under our current Governor our annual budget has grown from approximately $36 Billion to $58 Billion in eight years. We have seen an unrelentless assault on Pregnancy Care Centers. The State has been put in a position to deal with children in the public schools with regard to minors embracing transgender issues, CUTTING PARENTS OUT OF THE EQUATION. That is insanity run amok!!  Historical trends show that New Jersey’s gubernatorial races can swing between parties, and recent shifts in voter sentiment suggest a competitive landscape this year. Therefore, consolidating support behind the primary winner is crucial to present a united front, mobilize voters effectively, and capitalize on the opportunity to gain control of the Statehouse and possibly the NJ Assembly as well. There is a lot at stake!
